Creating The Perfect Add-on Nursery
There are many times throughout your life that you may find yourself upgrading to a larger home or adding on to the home that you have. One of the times that you may find yourself doing this is when you are expecting a child.
In the near future, you know that you will be welcoming a baby into your family and that it is going to demand a lot of time and attention.
As a result, it will be important that the baby can be put in a location that is near your own bedroom so that you can hear it when it cries in the night.
If there is not a room that can be used for a nursery available near your bedroom, you may find yourself contemplating adding on a new room adjacent to your room for the new child.
This will be an expensive procedure, so you will want to consider whether or not you can move the items in one of the available rooms to another place or whether you can remodel the walk-in closet for a nursery.
If you do decide to add on a room, you will need to remember that you will have to extend the foundation of the home. You will also have to invest in more siding and in an appropriate roof.
If you want your home to look uniform from the outside, you may need to re-side the entire house or re-roof the entire house so that the materials used are the same.
Of course, this will not be a problem if your home is still new enough that the original materials are still available.
Meanwhile, if you remodel the closet, you may need to knock out a wall to make it a little larger or something. Once you have a room prepared, there are several things that you will want to consider as you set up the nursery.
The first thing you will want to find is multi-functional furniture. Whether you have added on a room or remodeled the walk-in closet, the nursery will probably be quite small.
As a result, all of the pieces of baby furniture and items that you probably want will not fit into it. By finding pieces of furniture that can be used for multiple things, you will be able to save a lot of space.
For example, you should look for a changing table that has shelves or drawers underneath so that you can store various items such as diaper wipes, diapers, fresh blankets, pacifiers, and so forth.
This way you will not have to purchase shelving as well as a changing table.
Besides, connected shelving is much more convenient. You will be able to use one hand to make sure that the baby does not roll of the table while you reach down for a new diaper.
The organization will be very nice when you have to get up several times during the night.
As the nursery is attached to your master bedroom, you will want to make sure that it matches your bedroom in theme and color, while staying uniquely a nursery.
The colors you select should be pleasing to your eye and fairly calm. If you do not like the colors that are in your master bedroom, this may be a good time to repaint that room as well.
The two rooms do not need to be exactly the same, but they should flow well. If you have greens and browns in your master bedroom, then you may want to choose a light, baby green for the nursery.
If you have blues in your bedroom and you are having a boy, you may want to choose a sailor theme for the nursery.
Keep in mind that even though the stereotype is that you should decorate in pinks or blues depending on whether you are having a boy or a girl, you do not have to stick to this trend.
You may want to include some of these colors for traditions sake, but it is not necessary. As the parent, you can decorate in any way you choose.
However, you should keep in mind that some designs may be more calming to a child than others. After several sleepless nights, you will probably want to choose the option that is more soothing and calming.
The furniture and blankets that you choose should match your design. This will contribute to overall design and it will be a very pleasing place to bring your new little one.
