2010 Nfl Season Week 2 Results – Blowouts, Comebacks, And More Upsets
Week Two of the 2010 NFL season was full of blowouts, upsets, and big comebacks. Two NFC division winners from last year fall to 0-2 and will be hitting the panic button soon if they don’t get it together. I did considerably worse on my predictions this week, going only 8-8.
Green Bay Packers 34, Buffalo Bills 7 – My Pick: Green Bay
This game went pretty much according to script. Aaron Rodgers had a big day as expected, throwing for 255 yards and 2 passing touchdowns, and running in another touchdown himself.
Miami Dolphins 14, Minnesota Vikings 10 – My Pick: Minnesota
The Dolphins get the big upset win over the Vikings. Brett Favre had a terrible game, throwing 3 interceptions and losing 1 fumble. Adrian Peterson was the lone bright spot for Minnesota, rushing for 145 yards and 1 touchdown.
Kansas City Chiefs 16, Cleveland Browns 14 – My Pick: Kansas City
The Chiefs win another close game to improve to 2-0 on the season. They leaned on their running game and defense again this week, but they will need much better production from Matt Cassel and the rest of the offense in the coming weeks if they want to continue their winning ways.
Chicago Bears 27, Dallas Cowboys 20 – My Pick: Dallas
The Bears get the huge upset win on the road over the Cowboys. Chicago moves on to the monumental task of trying to beat the mighty Packers next week. Dallas falls to 0-2 on the season and have to face the red-hot Texans at home next week.
Atlanta Falcons 41, Arizona Cardinals 7 – My Pick: Atlanta
Atlanta crushed the Cardinals, with Matt Ryan and third-string running back Jason Snelling having big games for the Falcons.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers 20, Carolina Panthers 7 – My Pick: Tampa Bay
The Buccaneers improve to 2-0 on the season with the win over the Panthers. The struggling Matt Moore looks like he is not the answer at QB for Carolina, he is going to be benched next week and Jimmy Clausen will get the start.
Philadelphia Eagles 35, Detroit Lions 32 – My Pick: Philadelphia
This turned out to be a wild one. It looked to be a blowout as Philadelphia had a 35-17 lead in the fourth quarter, but then the Lions came storming back with two touchdowns and a two point conversion to cut the lead to just 3. Detroit even successfully recovered an onside kick, but the Lions ran out of steam and failed to get within field goal range before turning the ball over on downs. Rookie running back Jahvid Best had another great game for the Lions, with 232 yards of total offense and three touchdowns.
Cincinnati Bengals 15, Baltimore Ravens 10 – My Pick: Baltimore
The Bengals stepped up their game and came up victorious against their division rivals. Cincinnati’s defense had a great game, holding Joe Flacco to only 154 passing yards and 1 touchdown while intercepting him 4 times.
Pittsburgh Steelers 19, Tennessee Titans 11 – My Pick: Tennessee
Another week, another Steelers win when I pick against them. The Pittsburgh defense and special teams were outstanding once again, with seven forced turnovers and a kickoff return for a touchdown. The Steelers are looking like they are going to be a real tough team to beat this year, even more so after they get Ben Roethlisberger back.
Denver Broncos 31, Seattle Seahawks 14 – My Pick: Seattle
The Seahawks had a different kind of surprising performance this week, getting blown out by the Broncos. Kyle Orton had a great game for Denver, throwing for 307 yards and 2 touchdowns. Fans of Tim Tebow were disappointed this week as he was not used in the game at all, even though it was never really close.
Oakland Raiders 16, St. Louis Rams 14 – My Pick: St. Louis
Darren McFadden rushed for 145 yards and Bruce Gradkowski provided the spark off the bench to give the Raiders their first victory of the season. Gradkowski took over at quarterback for Jason Campbell in the second half and led the Oakland offense on three scoring drives. Will he be the new starting quarterback? It is uncertain at this point, but I think the Raiders need to do whatever it takes to win games.
Houston Texans 30, Washington Redskins 27 – My Pick: Houston
The Texans win in dramatic fashion in overtime, improving to 2-0 and sitting atop the AFC South in first place. Down by 17 in the 3rd quarter, Houston rallied for 17 unanswered points to tie the game and send it to overtime. The Texans won the coin toss and moved to within range of a 52 yard field goal, but Houston coach Gary Kubiak elected to punt instead of trying the long kick. The Redskins then had a good drive to about the same spot in Texans’ territory and decided to try the long field goal. Washington’s rookie kicker Graham Gano nailed the apparent game-winning kick, but Kubiak had sagely called a timeout right before the snap. Gano’s second attempt sailed wide right, and the Texans went on to win the game with a 35 yard field goal.
New York Jets 28, New England Patriots 14 – My Pick: New England
Will the real Mark Sanchez please stand up? The Jets quarterback looked like a completely different player this week, throwing for 220 yards, 3 touchdowns, and no interceptions. New York lived up to the hype this week, defeating their hated division rival New England even with Pro Bowl cornerback Darelle Revis having to leave the game in the second quarter with a hamstring injury.
San Diego Chargers 38, Jacksonville Jaguars 13 – My Pick: San Diego
The Chargers came out firing on all cylinders this week, giving the Jaguars a merciless beating. The San Diego defense caused six turnovers and Philip Rivers threw for 334 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Indianapolis Colts 38, New York Giants 14 – My Pick: New York *Upset of the Week*
Most likely my worst prediction to date, as the Colts came out with a vengeance and put the game away early. The Colts showed that they are still an elite team, and the Giants showed that they might not be as good as people thought after their impressive first week.
New Orleans Saints 25, San Francisco 49ers 22 – My Pick: New Orleans
The Saints escape with a game-winning field goal as time expires to improve their record to 2-0. Bad news for New Orleans as Reggie Bush suffered a broken leg in the game and is expected to miss up to six weeks. The 49ers played much better this week, but too many turnovers cost them the game.
